Traditional Wassail - Bph 12/94 Recipe

Ingredients:
3 quart: Ale or dark beer,
1 tsp: Grated nutmeg,
1 each: Bottle, (750ml) sweet sherry
1: Lemon, sliced
1 cup: Cognac, Optional
10 slice: White bread, crust removed
2 cup: Brown sugar, packed
-toasted, buttered, &
1 tsp: Ground ginger,
-quartered, optional
Directions:
Gently heat beer, sherry, cognac (if using) in large saucepan. Do
not boil. Add sugar, ginger, and nutmeg and cook over low heat,
stirring, until sugar is dissolved. Pour into punchbowl and float
lemon slices and toast on surface. Or, pass toast on a separate
platter so people can dip it into drink. About 20 servings."
