Basic Braised Brussels Sprouts Recipe

Ingredients:
1 lbs: Small firm bright green,
Leaves removed,
Brussels sprouts, rinsed
1/2 tsp: Salt,
Stem ends and discolored,
Directions:
Bring sprouts,
cup water and salt to boil in 2-quart saucepan over
medium-high heat. Lower heat, cover and simmer, shaking pan once or
twice, until knife tip inserted into brussels sprout center meets no
resistance, 8-10 minutes. Drain well and serve or continue with
another recipe.
Variation for Brussels Sprouts Braised in Cream
Follow recipe for Basic Braised Brussels Sprouts. substituting 1 cup
whipping cream for
cup water. Increase cooking time to 10-12
minutes. Season with a pinch of grated nutmeg and ground black
pepper. Serve without draining.
